Dr. Neely's profile at iuhealth.org

Neely actively participates in the Infant  Aphakia Treatment Study (IATS), which  includes  enrolling  patients,  conducting surgeries,  and  interpreting  data. This study attempted to optimize surgical treatment of unilateral congenital cataracts with a focus on long-term outcomes.

Dr. Neely has led numerous projects on innovative surgical treatments for pediatric eye diseases such as strabismus and pediatric glaucoma. For instance, a recent study reported that circumferential trabeculotomy lowers intraocular pressure in pediatric glaucoma compared with traditional trabeculotomy—in both short-term and long-term follow-up visits.

As a site PI, Dr. Neely has participated in several clinical trials on amblyopia and strabismus treatments for the Pediatric Eye Disease Investigator Group. These studies significantly impact daily clinical practice.

  • Pediatric Eye Disease Investigator Group (including Neely DE). (2014) A Randomized Trial Comparing Part-time Patching with Observation for Children 3-10 Years Old with Intermittent Exotropia.
  • Pediatric Eye Disease Investigator Group (including Neely DE). (2015) A Randomized Trial of Levodopa as Treatment for Residual Amblyopia in Older Children. Ophthalmology. 122(5): 874-81
