Medical Students

Ophthalmology is part of the surgical rotation along with general surgery and anesthesia for medical students at the IU School of Medicine.

Students may select ophthalmology as a surgical subspecialty rotation in the third year of medical school. And, through prior arrangement with a faculty member, a student can sign up for an ophthalmology rotation focused on a clinical subspecialty or on a research project.

Educational Resources for Medical Students

EDACTIC: Online, interactive ophthalmic cases

The IU Department of Ophthalmology has developed an online, interactive teaching resource for medical students interested in increasing their knowledge of ophthalmic diseases and conditions commonly encountered by the non-ophthalmologist physician.

Clicking on "All Records" provides a list of available cases.

Medical students are encouraged to examine these online, learn-at-your-own-pace/place interactive cases.

(The EDACTIC  files are available for use thanks to the IU Department of Radiology who is housing them on their server.)
